ABOUT ABOUT

Calling all sea turtle enthusiasts, junior scientists, aspiring marine biologists, and conservationists ages 10-12!  The Georgia Sea Turtle Center invites campers to enjoy fun-in-the-sun activities, field-based adventures and, of course, sea turtles during our day camp! Each day will focus on sea turtle biology and how these ancient mariners are connected to water, weather, and climate. Campers will explore turtle habitats of Jekyll Island from sandy beaches to muddy marshes, and even embark on an eco-trawl to discover what ocean animals live nearby.

Water, Weather, and Wildlife Camp is offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 9 a.m.-2p.m., and Wednesday 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. with select opportunities for camp families to join in the adventures. Partial registration is not available.

*NEW* Camp takes over the night for an Evening Turtle Walk! On Wednesday, June 21 the camp day begins at dinnertime. A parent/guardian chaperone is required to attend this session.

Monday
Dive into sea turtle rehabilitation! Campers will meet our patients, explore our Learning Center, take a private behind-the-scenes tour, and meet our mascot Scute C. Turtle. We will learn about sea turtles and the rescue and rehabilitation efforts of the GSTC.

Tuesday
Dive into weather and climate! During an excursion to the beach, campers will participate in fun activities and learn about how weather patterns affect sea turtles. We will discover how sea turtles depend on the environment and the impacts a changing climate can have.

Wednesday
Dive into sea turtle nesting! We will meet after hours at the GSTC to see turtles after dark. Campers will participate in turtle themed activities then head to the beach for an evening turtle walk. We will learn all about sea turtle nesting behavior and hope to see a nesting sea turtle!

Thursday
Dive into the water cycle! During a trip to the salt marsh, campers will participate in a hands-on eco-trawl where they will learn how this important ecosystem supports the ocean and may have the chance to handle marine animals such as shellfish and fish. We will discover how sea turtles depend on the water cycle and how we can all be ocean conservationists.

Friday
Dive into your success – it’s graduation day! Campers will participate in a fun scavenger hunt at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. To end the day, we will hold a graduation ceremony so that campers can share their experiences with their families.
