Behind the Scenes tours are 45-minute semi-private guided tours of the staff-only areas. Behind the Scenes tours start with an introduction to the center and review behavior guidelines. The group is led to the hospital and food preparation areas to learn about veterinary and husbandry practices. Participants meet patients that cannot be seen from public areas. This tour does not include feeding, touching animals, or tankside access to sea turtles.  

Purchase includes free general admission to the GSTC for each ticket holder. General admission can be used the day of your Behind the Scenes tour.

Service animals are prohibited on Behind the Scenes tours. Portions of Behind the Scenes tours are not accessible. If you have questions about the accessibility of the program, please call (912-635-4076) or email ([email protected]) at least one week before your visit.

MEETING TIME:
Check-in by 2:50 p.m. Bring your printed or e-receipt/tickets.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The tour lasts up to one hour and includes standing in place for long periods. Participants may come in contact with strong smells such as raw seafood and see injections/blood. Participants may also walk on slippery wet floors.

AGE LIMIT:
Participants must be at least 10 years old on or before the tour date. Participants 10-15 years old are required to be accompanied by an adult on the tour.

ATTIRE:
Everyone is required to wear closed-toed shoes during the tour.

PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES:
-Unauthorized touching or harassment of animals
-Dropping items in animal enclosures
-Entering unauthorized areas

GUARANTEE:
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center does not guarantee that guests will observe a patient treatment or operation while participating in the program. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is not responsible for any injury or complication that arises while participating in this program. Participants must comply with all instructions, including but not limited to prohibited activities (e.g., touching animals). Non-compliance will result in the termination of the program with no refund. Tours may be canceled without advanced notice due to emergency veterinary procedures. In the event of a cancellation, a full refund for the tour will be offered.

Restrictions

Any person entering the premises waives all civil liability against this premises owner and operator for any injuries caused by the inherent risk associated with contracting COVID-19 at public gatherings, except for gross negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, reckless infliction of harm, or intentional infliction of harm, by the individual or entity of the premises.

Behind the Scenes tours are not suitable for children under 10 years of age. Children must be able to stand still for long periods and follow directions. All minors age 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must be able to stand for 45 minutes and tolerate sights and smells associated with hospital environments and raw seafood preparation.
